I eat real food. I prefer to eat organic, whole, natural foods that are minimally processed. Natural, whole foods are the way to go! Full of nutrients and unaltered (very much) by man. Find all the recipes I've blogged here.
Growing up my family enjoyed and celebrated with food. What American family doesn't? The holidays were always a big thing at my grandmother's house, with warm, comforting meals followed by dessert bringing us together. My parents were very healthy eaters (vegetarian mom, omnivore dad) and made sure that my sister and I loved all kinds of produce. They helped me form a good relationship with food and understanding of the correlation between eating whole foods and health. I'm thankful for that.

Although I've had my share of sugar, candy, soda, and fast food over the years too, and I now try to enjoy "treats" in moderation. I'm proud to say that I no longer drink soda or eat fast food. European Chocolate and a glass of red wine is one of my favorite treats, but fruit alone can be dessert for me. And after trying Raw Vegan Chocolate Cherry Balls I have a new perspective on treats... healthy and delicious, what a crazy concept!
The way of eating (and also thinking) that has helped me the most are the T-Tapp God Made/Man Made Dietary Guidelines. This is a whole food approach to eating with moderation on the processed food products (think anything boxed or instant). Eat as many veggies as you want (except corn and white potatoes), fruit (1-2 servings/day), lean grass-fed free-range meats, organic dairy and eggs, beans and legumes, and whole grains (brown rice, wild rice, quinoa, spelt or sprouted grain). To honor my body, health and the planet I try my best to avoid consuming dangerous "foods" with these ingredients: Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs), substitute sweeteners, High Fructose Corn Syrup (HFCS) aka Corn Sugar, preservatives, additives, pesticides and chemicals, hormones and medications, plus anything I have to "Google" to find out what it is.
I like to focus on making better choices. Eating clean is a process. Baby steps add up to big dietary changes over time! There have been times in my life where I ate total junk for weeks on end. I still enjoy those types of foods, but not daily. My body craves veggies and I eat at least 4-6 servings a day, plus 1-2 servings of fruit (frozen or fresh, mostly organic).
